Used to be that the world had a standard definition for most actions, philosophies and concepts based more             or less on the truth. But today, confusion reigns and “truth has fallen in the streets”.

Perhaps it is because of the advent of digitally inspired virtual reality, laced with generous doses of Hollywood-inspired “reality TV” (which is totally unreal), that politicians have dared to come up with definitions “on-the-fly” which at best are self-serving and at worst – immoral lies.

When the British Empire and its European and American cohorts colonized many parts of the world, it was “for the greater good of the heathens and their progress”. When others in the 20th century colonized their neighbors, eg China and Tibet, the Chinese are vilified as hegemonists. Why doesn’t anyone talk about the Indian absorption of Sikkim, and the many displaced people of Nepali origin in places like Sikkim today?

Enthusiastic “saviors of freedom” are quick to decry the ‘detention without trial’ law of countries like Singapore and others who don’t qualify as their flavor of the month nations. But “Big Brothers” like USA can cavalierly carry out the same concept under a worse practice called “rendition”. Strictly translated, the word “rendition” means A performance or interpretation, especially of a dramatic role or piece of music. Or A visual representation or reproduction”. So what was the US interpreting by whisking detainees off to foreign destinations without trial, some for many years? Is this illegal or illegally legal?

When rioters crowd the streets of USA or Europe against unpopular policies or legislation, like human rights and Vietnam War clashes in the past, the police were busily clubbing and driving rioters back.

But in other “unfavored nations” when rioters take to the streets with demonstrations bordering on violence and these nations’ army or police come out to restore order, then it becomes pogrom – like activities, to be stopped. The “saviors” then authorized themselves the right to interfere, ‘to protect the man in the street in these nations”. Who’s protecting the governments?

Used to be that when a nation sends bombs into another country, it was called a “declaration of war”. But the invasion of Iraq was nobly cloaked as a “pre-emptive strike”. And now, in the second decade of the 21st century, we have invented an even more ingenious definition called “the no-fly zone” ala Libya. Whilst the Libyan government is unable to fly, the Allies are busily bombing their installations and compounds, at the same time declaring hypocritically that they mustn’t kill the Gadaffis in case they then become martyrs.

When we, as employees, miss our budgets or lose money for the company, we got fired and are branded as “losers”. But the very bankers who caused a major global financial collapse and the wreck and ruin of thousands all over the world, are now heroes who get handsomely rewarded by self-declared bonuses. Losers become winners, so the winners must now be losers!

A marriage used to be between a man and a woman. Now, in certain countries, it has been re-defined as “between 2 consenting adults above 16 years”. A mother need not be a woman nor a father a man! In case you didn’t get the drift, schools in some European countries are not allowed to teach the kids that a family is made up of father, mother and kids. You are free to have 2 daddies or 2 mommies. Hollywood jumps in to portray homosexual couplings in graphic detail in Oscar nominated movies like ” The kids are alright”.

Rent-a-home has given way to rent-a-womb. If I felt like it, I don’t need to go through nine ghastly months of pregnancy, I simply rent-a-womb. Or I can get designer genes and have a baby without the inconvenience of having a spouse or partner.

Welcome to Utopia!

OFF WITH HIS HEAD…and off it flew… from the noose!
January 17, 2007

I can’t think of a more macabre choice to make if I was one of the accused in the IRAQI docks ala Sadam & his 2 sidekicks……..death by hanging, decapitation, firing squad, injection, plain ole electric chair (did you watch the movie “The Green Mile”?), a bullet to my head or what???

BUT ( there’s always a but)….this depends on whether I agree that they deserved to die.

I’m not a war criminal sympathiser without a cause……BUT (there it goes again)… if I didn’t agree that Bush had the right to march into Iraq the way he did in his oxymoronic “pre-emptive strike” based on sightings of phantom WMDs, then I can’t agree that the 3 dead Iraqi former leaders deserved their ending. Oh, I’m not Muslim or Arab. In fact, I am an Asian Christian.

Why don’t they deserve to die? Well, US bombed them, invaded their country and then hauled them to court as war criminals’ equivalent( though never so named). The clear definition of war criminal is one who committed atrocities during a war.
No doubt if Saddam was legitimately deposed as dictator and brought to civil trial he would have met the same fate.
BUT……he wasn’t!! He was the guy who lost the invasion by another country and had to hide in a hole!!

I weep to read the simpleton response of Condi Rice when she was reported to “express disappointment ” with the shoddy way the executions were handled. How else did she think they will be handled in a country torn by sectarian warfare now, reluctant bedfellows with an internationally unpopular country (USA)? Being old enough to remember the Vietnam War, it brings back images of the Ngo Dinh Diem regime and their cruel abuse of their people…and they were backed by the US too.

Flashback to Pol Pot and Cambodia, same s–t, different shovel!

So what’s wrong with this picture?

Once again, the USA has misguided understanding of their role as the world’s policeman.

From the land where “spin” was invented, it’s ironic that Bush has done everything short of pulling down his “drawers” to expose himself as (unfortunately true), not of the highest intelligence.

When I read the body count of foreign soldiers in Iraq, it underpins the most caustic critics’ vitriol….132k american soldiers versus a puny 18K other nations! And this ‘roll-call” of “united combatants” is supposed to illustrate international agreement with US’s pre-emptive strike??.

So, now I wonder, if any other country’s dictator, albeit cruel and unjust, pops up.. will there be more beheadings around the world?
Omigosh, there will be more heads flying around than the annual locust migrations in the US wheatlands.

Dear America, you are caught out by your wonderful democratic processes of Congress and senate and the White House and have, once more with feeling, landed in the bog (er, the cockney meaning please).

BUT (promise it’s the last time)….maybe this doesn’t bother you much, since the wars are always fought on others’ turf.

And as a Christian, Mr. Bush, did you hear God’s voice, your voice, your cronies’ voice or Satan’s voice when you made that war decree? (this is a serious question)

yes, God is weeping too!!
That none should perish!!

Plastic bags are banned here
October 23, 2006

High above the rolling clouds, amidst the foothills of the lofty Himalayas, is the former Kingdom of Sikkim. Now an annexed state of India, it has one of the most advanced eco policies which will gladden the hearts of Greenpeace.
They ban plastic bags! Every retail outlet serves up brown paper bags for your purchases. A can of cookies I bought as a present was efficiently wrapped in recycled newspaper! A local explained to me that the former King banned plastic bags many years ago as he wanted to make Sikkim green. His first wife was American. Wonder if she had any influence in the decision.

Choosing or losing?
October 15, 2006

Vanilla or chocolate? Pink or green? Sam or Ham? June or Jan? Money or fame? Life or death? Well or sick? Here or there? Large or small? BA or SQ? Up or down? Three or four? Chicken or beef? Winning or losing?

Manic already? We are faced with so many choices every minute of our lives yet we make many choices based on different and sometimes totally quirky or unreliable reasons. Or we may be stuck on the fence of indecision for the longest time, way past the sell by date of opportunity.

Choose you this day…..think about all the choices you face now and think about the reasons you’ve assigned to these choices.
